What do you like the most about being an Optician?

My favorite part is getting to meet so many different people and improve their lifestyle with clear vision! I love blending function and fashion in eyewear. Glasses are a medically necessary accessory and a unique way to express your personality. As your optician, my priority is to ensure that your experience with your glasses is both enjoyable and effortless.

What brought you to the industry and how many years have you been an Optician?

Having recently graduated with a degree in photography, I fell into my first job as a frame stylist for a corporate retailer in 2011. I already had a solid background in lens optics, and quickly developed a genuine love for the industry! This is my 10th year practicing opticianry.

What are your favorite spots in Austin?

The Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Austin Botanical Gardens when the weather is nice.

What do you like to do outside of Optique?

I enjoy a never ending adventure decorating and redecorating our new home as a hobby! I love caring for our yard and have plans to make it a sustainable garden this year. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and still curl up to a good paperback on the weekends.

What do you like the most about being an Optician?

I really enjoy helping someone find a great pair of glasses that they’re excited about.  A trip to the eye doctor should be fun!  Ensuring people have a great experience with us is genuinely rewarding.

What brought you to the industry and how many years have you been an Optician?

Having worn glasses since third grade, optical shops are a familiar place for me. I first began working in the optical field in 2001!  One day I went from being a patient to an employee and the rest was history.  I love the combination of the crucial optical aspects and the fashion element that is involved.

What are your favorite spots in Austin?

I’m still exploring Austin, as I’ve only been here two years.  I love being outside so some of my favorite spots are Mt Bonnell and Lady Bird Lake (paddle boarding). A couple restaurants I’ve come to frequent are OneTaco and Pourhouse Pizza.

What do you like to do outside of Optique?

When not at Optique, I can usually be found chasing my little boy as he rides his scooter in a park somewhere around town. I also love going for runs early in the morning. Of course some good snacks and a good movie on the couch is always great too!

Every single day brings new challenges and technologies, so it keeps the work exciting.

What brought you to the industry and how many years have you been an Optician?

12 years!  It was a career I kind of fell into out of college that just stuck. My passion for the work began when I first started at Optique because the frame inventory is so unique and interesting.

What do you like the most about being an Optician?

I like dispensing a patients glasses after having spent time going over the best frame and lens options for their prescription. The delight on their faces when they realize how well they see and how good they look is incredible!

What brought you to the industry and how many years have you been an Optician?

I knew I wanted to work in healthcare, and I’d recently had a wonderful experience with an optician who helped me pick out some glasses I was treating myself with for my birthday. I started as an optometric tech 12 years ago and have been an optician for 10 years.

Being an optician is in my blood. My grandmother owned and managed an optical. I worked with her during the summers and after school. My great uncle and my aunt were also opticians. My younger brother is also an optician. I have been in the optical business for over 27 years.

What do you like the most about being an Optician?

Seeing people’s reaction to good eyesight. When I first became an optician, one of my first tasks was to dispense glasses to a 4 year old boy with an extremely high prescription. He had never worn any before, and I realized that was probably the first time he actually saw his mom’s face properly.

What brought you to the industry and how many years have you been an Optician?

I kind of fell into it. My first apartment was right next to an optical and I just walked in one day looking for a job. They graciously hired me with no experience and showed me the ropes. As of 2020 I’ve been an optician for about 6 years.

What are your favorite spots in Austin?

I love walking around the Domain and checking out local bars downtown. My favorite place however is the Alamo Drafthouse.

What do you like to do outside of Optique?
When I’m not at work I’m usually at home playing guitar or piano, taking my dog on walks, or reading!
