Where are you from?
I was born in Austin. I went to middle school and high school in McAllen, Texas, but I’ve lived in Austin for over half my life. I consider it home here.
Where did you go to school?
I went to the University of Texas at Austin for undergrad and received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and I went to the University of Houston for Optometry school. I completed both of my clinical internships for two well-known practices here in Austin.
What do you enjoy most about being an Optometrist?
I love everything about being an eye doctor, but I enjoy the interactions with my patients and finding the perfect refraction to be my most favorite. Optometry incorporates a lot of physics and math in its day-to-day interactions. With my engineering background, I find it an exciting challenge to give each of my patients the perfect refraction for their glasses or contact lens prescription. Our vision is a very subjective experience, so I find it rewarding when patients tell me that, “This is the best I’ve ever seen!”
What do you do in your free time?
I spend most of my free time with my family: my husband and our two children. We love to travel and are very active. We each have our own favorite activity, so I find myself spending most weekends going to sports activities and enjoying the great restaurant scene that Austin has to offer. I’m also passionate about running and strength training, so I try to fit in a workout on most days. If I have any more free time leftover, I love to shop, read or snuggle up with my family to watch a movie.
